Duchene Muscular Dystrophy-Response

After reading cookiemonster1696's blog I was upset about how there is no cure for the Sickle Cell Anemia disease. Males and Females can be infected with this disease and they can live from 42-48 years of age, this disease can affect the world population with 1 in 5,000. The symptoms of this disease consist of high fever, chest pain, difficult breathing and pulmonary infiltrate. This disease is more common in Africa 1 in 500 Blacks are infected. i think this disease needs to be studied more to find a cure it's horrible how they are left to suffer like that it's not right.http://cookiemonster1696.blogspot.com/

Turners Syndrome

1 out of every 2,500 girls are infected with Turners Syndrome. In 1938, Dr. Henry Turner discovered this horrible disease. The patient's symptoms may include having a "webbed"neck, a low hair line, drooping eyelids, freak ears, abnormal bone development, crazy amount of moles, extra fluid or edema in hands and feet, academic  disabilities and their short. The treatments for this disease are human growth hormone and estrogen. The life span for girls with this disease is the same as the average woman. I think Turners Syndrome is a horrible disease, it ruins the lives of young innocent girls, scientists around the world should do whatever they can to find a cure.

Local News-Restaurant Crisis

In the Article I read, it explains how local restaurants are feeling the downturn in the economy. Three restaurants in the South Brunswick area are going through the economic downturn in different ways.  They all are trying to survive with having less customers with fewer dollars to spend.
Pierre Hageboutros, owner of Pierre's said, "The recession is affecting everything and were doing, and their is less business because people don't have the money to spend."  Pierre's had to adjust their pricing in the menu and have lowered the amount of hours the staff works to keep their costs down.
Theo Zervos, of Theo's Family Restaurant has been keeping pricing down but trying to maintain the same high quality service.  "People are ordering less food and looking for better pricing on the menu."  His goal is to make his place affordable and friendly.
Vinny Mehta the owner of the Fork American Bistro is doing better at his restaurant because they have had lower prices on their menu and he is combining these low prices with a great atmosphere to draw in the crowds.
I think only time will tell if these three restaurants will survive the economic problems the area is facing.  Everyday that these establishments can continue to weather the economic storm is a great day in South Brunswick for all!

Current Event Blog- Earthquakes in NJ

Who: Won-Young Kim- seismologist
What: An earthquake
Where: Morris County, Dover and Morris Planes (NJ)
When: 10:34 PM Monday Feb 2nd
Why: Small earthquakes (ranging from magnitude of 2.5-3.0) are not uncommon in this area of NJ.

This article says earthquakes are not common in this area, but they also said it wasn't your typical earthquake. People who have been through many of them before didn't feel it was the same as others. If I were in this earthquake, I don't know what I would do. It's scary to think not too far from here there have been earthquakes recently.

Inauguration of President Obama

The inauguration of president Obama was a historic day for America. On January 20th, 2009 Barack Obama became President of the United States of America. Obama is the first African American to ever become president. Over one million people arrived to witness the miracle. Many Americans were moved by Obama's speech it was truly remarkable. I really didn't want Obama to be president, but Know i think he will make a fine president he definitly has support from America.

Class Response-Energy Roles

During Purple science class we took some time to learn about energy roles. There's three types of energy roles producers, consumers and decomposers, each of them obtain their energy from interacting with other organisms. An organism that is able to make its own food is a producer, producers are the source of all the food in an ecosystem. An organism that feeds directly or indirectly on producers is called a consumer, consumers depend on producers for food and energy. Organisms that break down dead organisms into simpler substances are decomposers, they use dead matter as food. I think that energy roles are very interesting because it explains how all the living organisms on earth affect the environment.
